Doc’s Downtown Grill – Let’s Do Trivia! – Blurb for 3/24/26
Doc’s Downtown Grill felt a little different this week — not in a bad way, more like when the substitute teachers roll in and everyone collectively decides, “Yeah, we can still have a great time.” With George off somewhere living his best vacation life, probably perfecting the art of not answering emails, the dynamic duo of John and Latif stepped in to steer the ship. And honestly? The place ran like a well‑oiled trivia machine with a slight scent of mischief.
The opening rounds came out swinging. Seven teams took the field, each one ready to prove they were the rightful heirs to the Doc’s Downtown crown. Sux@Trivia wasted no time establishing themselves as the early problem for everyone else, stacking points like they were trying to build a small fort. But the pack behind them wasn’t exactly napping, Diamond Dogs, At it Again, The Walnuts, Village Idiots, Dum Dum Idiots, and PowerPuff Girls all kept the scoreboard lively and the halftime gap surprisingly manageable.
Halftime arrived with Sux@Trivia perched on top, but the middle of the pack was a swirling, chaotic cluster of teams separated by only a handful of points. It was the kind of scoreboard that makes you lean forward, squint, and whisper, “Oh, this is gonna get weird.”
And then the second half did get weird, in the best possible way. Teams traded big hits, bonus points, and the occasional “Wait, we knew that!” groan. The Walnuts surged. Dum Dum Idiots and At it Again matched each other step for step like two runners who refuse to let the other one breathe. Diamond Dogs hung around with that quiet “don’t count us out” energy. PowerPuff Girls kept swinging even as the point spread stretched. Village Idiots stayed scrappy and dangerous.
By the time we reached the “Before Final” scoreboard, the top of the leaderboard looked like a pressure cooker:
Sux@Trivia 60, Walnuts 59, Dum Dum Idiots 57, At it Again 57, Village Idiots 54, Diamond Dogs 47, PowerPuff Girls 40.
A 20‑point spread from top to bottom — exactly the kind of setup that makes a Final Question feel like a trapdoor.
And then came the wagers.
And then came the chaos.
Diamond Dogs dropped a 20‑point hammer and nailed the Final, rocketing from the middle of the pack straight into a share of first place with 67.
Dum Dum Idiots also hit their Final, landing on 67 and forcing the tie.
The Walnuts, ever the steady hands, locked in a correct zero‑wager and secured third with 59.
Sux@Trivia, after leading nearly wire‑to‑wire, stumbled on the Final and slid to fourth with 57.
The rest of the field shook out in dramatic fashion: At it Again (37), Village Idiots (34), PowerPuff Girls (20).
Tie‑breaker time is supposed to crown the ultimate winners, but partially because it's handled on paper napkins and similar, and partially because John forgot his medication and was overdue at the "Home for Forgetful Gameshow Hosts" (curfew is 9pm), we don't know who won! If you do, please comment below!:
🥇 Diamond Dogs – maybe?
🥇 Dum Dum Idiots – could be?
🥉 The Walnuts – $10
Some nights are steady. Some nights are predictable.
This one was a roller coaster with a loose seatbelt.
And speaking of loose seatbelts — somewhere in the middle of all this scoreboard mayhem, we should probably mention that for next week’s Round 2 Question 1 Art Bonus, we'd like you to draw a fish on a line, something George may not have seen last week.
George returns this week! Welcome him back with a fish-slap.
